Club NotesSeptember 6th, 2010U14 Hurling County ChampionsU14 Championship final : Monaleen 5-08 Na Piarsaigh 2-13Monaleen U 14 hurlers completed a unique treble in Bruff last saturday when they defeated Na Piarsaigh to add the County Championship to the Feile and All County Hurling League titles won earlier in the year. This was our first match against Na Piarsaigh in a number of years and was the greatest challenge the team has faced in Limerick , eventually winning on a final scoreline of 5.08 to 2.13 . Monaleen trailed by 7 points after 5 minutes but steadied the ship with some great goals by John Nicholas , Rory Cunningham and Edward Doyle todraw level at half time. Following some classic , tough and at all times fair hurling from two very good teams Monaleen won out by 4 points in front of a very vocal and large turnout. Scorers Edward Doyle 3.04 , John Nicholas 1.02 , Rory Cunningham 1.01 and Leo Morrisson 0.01. Team Oisin Kelly , Daniel Power , Ronan Murphy , Reiss Connolly , Leo Morrisson , Cian O Brien capt , Thomas Holmes , Andrew La Touche Cosgrave , Lorcan Lyons , Darragh Murphy , John Nicholas , Rory Cunningham , Domhnaill Dooley , Edward Doyle , Shane Doyle , Jack Cleary , Kevin Gleeson , Colm O Kane , Sean Gleeson , Alan Nicholas and Jamie Porter. The panel actually includes 4 sets of first cousins , Edward and Shane Doyle , John and Alan Nicholas , Darragh and Ronan Murphy and Colm O Kane and Jamie Porter . Well done to all concerned. U14 CamogieThe championship began with a positive start for the Monaleen girls. Two good wins should be enough to guarantee a semi-final spot with one group match to play. First up was a home match against Mungret and despite some early rusty play Monaleen rose to the challenge and won well. Caoimhe Lyons (3-2); Laura Phelan (2-0); Ciara Wiley (1-0) and Niamh Doyle (0-2) got the scores but it was great work in defence and midfield that ensured a comfortable victory. On Saturday an away match v Treaty Gaels was switched to Monaleen and with a near full panel available it was another strong performance. From the start Monaleen were on top and victory was never in doubt. Panel: Laura Phelan(1-0); Laura Enright; Jenny Ryan(1-0); Niamh Doyle(1-1); Aoife Hogan; Lesley Ann Ivors; Grainne Fullen; Siobhan Phelan; Caoimhe Lyons(2-4); Caroline Crotty(0-1); Shannon Suliman: Nora Farrell; Jane Stundon; Laura Griffin(1-0); Aisling Doyle; Emer Nelson; Aoife Nelson and Ciara Wiley. U9/10 FootballThe boys returned to action after a summer break on Monday night with a great display against Claughaun. U8 Hurling

Pitch
Minor FootballA brave performance by our minor footballers in the City Division 2 final saw them pipped in the last five minutes by a more accurate and persistent Killulta Gaels in Caherdavin on Friday last. This was a promising display from a side whose season has been punctuated so far by long delays in fixtures and absences due to family holidays but it is not the end of the road for them as they now enter the quarter-final of the county series. Having started slowly and having allowed the Kildimo/Pallaskenry combination side go ahead by two points, Monaleen re-established themselves through the hard work of the mid-field pair of Michael Dooley and David Mulhall. Padraigh Pond with two points, Darragh Nolan, Michael Dooley and David OBrien pointed to leave the sides level at the interval on the score of 0-6 each. Indeed Monaleen had the better of the exchanges in the third quarter and led by three points with ten minutes to go. Luke Murphy, John Griffin, Eoin Clancy, Patrick Birmingham and Eoin White cleared all before in defence during this time. Points came from David OBrien, who was menacing at full-forward, Liam Danagher, Dermot Kavanagh and Darragh Nolan to give Monaleen control of the game. However, three points from Killulta in quick succession caught a tiring Monaleen defence. The well-taken goal coming from the blues in the third last minute sealed it for them and gave a score line of 1-15 to 0-11 when Tommy Stack blew the final whistle. Credit is due to Tom Bonfil (manager) and Joe Pond for putting in such hard work in keeping this team alive during a difficult season. Monaleen lined out as follows: Conor Bonfil, John Griffin, Eoin Clancy, David Butler, Patrick Birmingham, Luke Murphy, Eoin White, Michael Dooley, Darragh Nolan, Padraigh Pond (Capt) Dermot Kavanagh, Liam Danagher, David OBrien, John Lipper. Subs used: Luck Clohessy and Andrew Lawlor. U21 FootballOur under-21 footballers start their championship with a home game against Na Piarsaigh on Wed; in the coming weeks they face Claughan, Killulta Gaels and St Patricks in a round-robins series before going out the county. Besides this fixture the next game of note is the Junior B hurling City semi-final game against Patrickswell in Rhebogue at 12 oclock next Sunday. A win here would not alone see a divisional final but a quarter-final county championship fixture against a county opponent. On the senior football front we still await a fixture for the county quarter-final against Fr. Caseys. Connected with that matter, congratulations to our senior footballer Paul Kinnerk for the fine work he did as trainer with the Clare minor hurling side that went within a whisker of winning an All-Ireland against Kilkenny on Sunday.
