Senior Football - Munster Quarter Final
The playing season for the adult teams has ended and so has their dream of advancing in the Munster Club Championship when our senior footballers met a classy Dr Crokes in Killarney on Sunday. That the home side, in their own state-of -the-art complex, were overwhelming favourites not alone for this tie but the All Ireland itself, this game was always going to be a daunting talk for Monaleen.
Nevertheless our side didn't flinch at the task in hand and were first into the fray with strong running by Eoin Keating, Barry Fitzpatrick and Padraig Quinn at the Dr Crokes back line. Despite the fact that Daithi Casey opened the scoring for Crokes with a point from a free, it was a run by Eoin Keating and a lobbed ball in to the square that saw Michael Crowley finish it to the net to put Monaleen in front for the only time in the game. Crokes had four more points before Colm (Gooch) Cooper found the net after 15 minutes to leave five points between the sides.
Monaleen started to impress themselves on the game with strong play by Peter Russell, Luke Kavanagh and Jason O'Brien. This resulted in Muiris Gavin pointing a free and Michael Crowley scoring a stylish point from play to leave only four points in the difference. Crokes did win the next mid-field break and pressed on to gain a point form Cooper but the real downer for Monaleen was the conceding a soft goal when 'Gooch' Cooper had only to tap in the ball. This was followed by an Eoin Brosnan point to leave Monaleen trailing by nine points - 2-6 to 1-2 at the interval.
The mountain to climb became even bigger when Crokes tagged on a further 3 points in a turgid second half in which the home side became even more confident. Monaleen's only score in the second half came from Cormac Joyce Power with a well-taken point from play. Try as they may Monaleen had to bow to a superior side that has every possibility of taking the Munster and All-Ireland titles to add to 2002 title.
Credit is due to the excellent work of Manager Ger Lawler and his selectors, Seanie O'Brien, Pat Quinn, Eddie Cosgrave, Tom Crosse and Physio, Paul Moloney and advisor Cian O'Neill in bringing the side from nowhere to a their fourth senior county title. They have provided a large following from Monaleen with lots of excitement and expectation for the past three months and are to be congratulated on the disciplined, committed and intense manner in which their panel approached their contests, right down to the final whistle in Killarney on Sunday last.

Under 16 Ladies County Final
Our under 16's played St Patricks in the C County Final in Ahane on Saturday 6th of November.
It was a very exciting game of football with the lead moving between the two teams on 5 occasions throughout the game.
St Patricks finished the first half one point in the lead. Monaleen played with great heart throughout the pitch but St Patricks finished stronger and were the ultimate winners. Congratulations to St Patrick's winning their first Ladies Football Trophy.

U11 and 12 Boys Football
As an opener to the senior match in Dr. Croakes on Sunday Monaleen brought their U11 and 12's footballers to take on Dr Croakes young guns. The u11's kicked off first and took control of the game early on. Some fine performances up the middle of the field from Cathal Carew, Shane Donegan saw Monaleen go in at half time with a strong lead of 3:2 to 1:3. Some great scores throughout particularly two points from Shane Donegan, one with the left and one with the right, points the Gouch himself would have been proud of. Covering the length and breath of the field was Cathal Carew with a great engine and strong and accurate left foot. Croakes made a come late in the second half but Monaleen closed out the game with two points to spare. Cathal Quilter , David Maloney, James Halas, Conor Nicholas, Eoin O'Shea, Conor Bermingham, Dara McCran gave some great performances in defence and Sam Burns, Cathal Humphreys, Philip Harty, Tomas O Flatherty, Oisin Crosse, Paul Clancy and Sean Finnucane and Jeff Hogan in the forwards. Subs to impress were Frank Russell, Dean Stritch, Alex O'Donoghue, Ian Campbell and Patrick Griffin.

The U12's then took to the field and were given an exhibition of football in the first half by a very classy Croakes team. Monaleen did manage to make a few breaks from the Croakes onslaught but the first half ended 1.6 to 1.2 to Croakes. The second have was almost an entirely different game, Monaleen came out with all guns blazing and tagged on score after score and took control in almost every position on the pitch. Great performances from Mark O'Dwyer and Darren O'Mahony in midfield, Dara Neville, Darragh O'Leary , Darren Coughlan, Daniel Hession all played key roles. Monaleen eventually ran out winners by five points to the shock of their hosts who were not beaten at this level in over two years and only scored once from a free in the second half. Others to impress were Daniel Enright, David Power, Alan Nicholas, Niall Loughran, Conor Doyle, Bryan Sheehan, Shane Carmody, Sean Malone and Ger Clancy. Well done to all the panel and coaches on both sides for a great display of football. Thanks also to the referee for both games Kieran O'Flaherty, a high professional standard of referring as always.
