Juvenile Notes
Our U14 footballers advanced to the Championship final with a hard-fought
win over Mungret. We took some time to get used to the greasy conditions
but a goal from Cian Hession and good points from Kevin Gleeson and Mark
O'Dwyer saw us lead 1-4 to 0-2 at half-time. Mungret started well in the
second-half and scored a goal to get them within two points. However after
that Monaleen played some great football driven by Oisin Kelly, Conor
Nelson and Evan O'Connor to score 10 unanswered points including 4 from
Conor Fleming and fine long range efforts from centre-back Niall O'Shea
and full-back Eoghan Whittle. Final score was Monaleen 1-14, Mungret 1-3.
Monaleen U12 Monaleen 7-3 , Doon 6-0
Monaleen ended their U12 season with a hard fought victory over Doon on
a scoreline of 7-3 to 6-0, played early last Saturday morning in the Gaelic
Grounds on Finals day. Monaleen started strongly and were competitive
from the off. Some fine individual scores from the excellent Conor Nicholas
, David Moloney , Conor Lyons and James Regan Magnier gave Monaleen a
strong lead of 4-2 to no score at half time. Excellent defending by Conor
Bermingham, Shane Donegan and Cathal Carew ensured that Monaleen's goal
was rarely threatened in the first half. Doon upped their game in the
second half and goaled three times in the space of 5 mins to bring the
match much closer. Philip Harty in goals was excellent throughout and
found himself dealing with some strong Doon pressure .Some good play by
Cian Mulcahy and Harry Gleeson set up Conor Nicholas for another Monaleen
goal and point, but Doon responded with a two goal salvo to leave the
minimum of three points between the teams as the closing minutes approached.
With the clock almost up, a fine run and goal from Conor Nicholas, capped
a fine individual display and gave Monaleen a good victory over determined
opponents on a scoreline of 7-3 to 6-0. Monaleen team - Philip Harty,
Shane Donegan, Cian Mulcahy, Conor Nicholas, Conor Bermingham, Cathal
Carew, Paul Power, Harry Gleeson, Brian O'Donnell, James Regan Magnier,
Conor Lyons

On Saturday we hosted St Vals of Cork, Lisowel of Kerry and Doora Barefield
of Clare. Each of the games was quite evenly matched and well done to
Monaleen who their 3 matches.
Our under 16's played the Novice Cup final against Ahane. This was an
excellent game with our girls losing out to 2 late scores.

Monaleen Under 10s & Under 9 Hurlers played Mungret on Sunday evening
9th October, and had two excellent closely fought and sporting contests.
The Under 10's had some great scores from Paul Ross, Caolan Madden, and
Jason Aylward, while the rest of the team were busy dealing with Mungret
attacks and setting up Monaleen chances. Some great performances on the
night, with Jack Considine showing quick hands and stickwork, while a
rapidly improving James Flannery gave the Mungret defense trouble with
a bustling full forward display. The scores were close throughout but
with Monaleen trailing by 2 points going into the last minute and seeking
the winning goal, it was Mungret who got the goal from a long range free.
Final Score Monaleen 1-4 Mungret 3-3.
Monaleen Team : Niall McGrath, Conor Coombs, Morgan Connolly, Micheal
O'Hanrahan, Eoin Twomey, Jason Aylward, Caolan Madden, Paul Ross, John
Toland, Conor Deegan, James Flannery, Jack Considine.
The Under 9's game was also well contested with notable performances from
Ryan Power, Donncha O Dalaigh, Eoin O Driscoll and Declan Aylward, to
name but a few. All the boys gave it their best and provided great entertainment
to the spectators.
The Under 9's game was also well contested with notable performances from
Ryan Power, Donncha O Dalaigh, Eoin O Driscoll and Declan Aylward, to
name but a few. All the boys gave it their best and provided great entertainment
to the spectators. This was really a game of two halves - Monaleen really
controlled the first half with some super goals and points from a variety
of player in a game that had a good balance of ground and field hurling.
The second half was a real come back by Mungret, with some fine scores
from close and long range. Overall the game was great to watch considering
the harsh conditions and the fact that many of the Monaleen players had
earlier being at another training session in a different discipline. The
referee for this game was also from Mungret and kept a close eye on proceedings
while ensuring the game flowed - good job. Well done to all.
