U14 Girls Féile na nÓg![]() Under 14 Girls Feile County Football Champions 2011 The Monaleen U14 Girls made history on Saturday,
9th of April, by winning their first every Féile na nÓg
County Championship. In a tournament of very high quality, Monaleen beat
Feohanach Castlemahon in their opening game by just a single point, before
going on to beat Old Mill and St Ailbe's, thereby qualifying for the semi
finals.
Every member of the squad played in those opening three games, with all the girls excelling. The performance levels grew with each game, and Monaleen's girls began to play some tremendous football en route to the semi final, where they met St. Brigids. In another close game, Monaleen came from behind for the third time in the competition to win, with driving performances in the backs from Emma Haugh, Niamh Mulhall, Caoimhe Lyons and Nicole Sheehan. The forwards began to click in the second half, with Jane Clohessy playing off cousin Megan O'Mara to great effect, and Aisling Doyle, Ellie Nolan and Sarah Shortt causing huge problems. Laura Phelan in goal made a number of great saves in the semi final and final. In the final against Mungret, Monaleen once again came from behind to beat a fiercely committed opposition, with Caroline Crotty and captain Sarah Geraghty excelling in midfield. Caoimhe Lyons, Lauren O'Dell and Grace Donovan repeatedly put their bodies on the line in matching the ferocity of Mungret's attacking play, and the speed and skill of Claire Kelly and Ciara Neville in the forwards caused huge problems for the Mungret defence. Monaleen triumphed on a scoreline of 1-3 to 0-4. A tremendous day for Monaleen Ladies GAA club, congratulations to all involved. Ladies FootballThe Ladies team played away to Oola in the All County League. They beat Oola 1-4 to 0-5 with skilful and determined displays from all the girls. The new team manager Paul Burke has maintained a 100% record.Girls FootballOur Under16s lost away to a strong Oola team on Monday night. Our under 12s lost away to Galtee Gaels on Friday night.U9/10 FootballLast Monday Monaleen hosted Mungret in a football blitz at the club with great numbers turning out. Monaleen fielded four teams in all between the U9 and 10 groups with each team and players getting equal time to participate. Some great skills on show in what was our
first competitive outing of the season, and while we started slow the
teams grew in confidence as the games progressed. Looking forward to more
competitive games over the coming weeks. Training continues every Monday
night at 6.30pm at the main pitch for both groups.
