Senior Notes

Monaleen Senior Footballers crowned county champions for the second year in a row. Monaleen defeated Newcastlewest in a great final in the Gaelic grounds on Sunday the 16th. With great conditions for football Monaleen got off to a good start with two points from Ger Collins giving us an early lead. Scoring was low in the first half and Newcastlewest had several good attacks but we unable to convert. The halftime scoreline was five points to three in favor of Monaleen. Monaleen played some excellent football in the second half to lead by ten points mid way through the second half. A goal from Ger Collins from a penalty spot helping us to a comfortable lead. Newcastlewest fought back well and in the final quarter closing the gap to just four points, but we kept our nerve to evetually win by five. On the day we had great performances from Donal O'Sullivan, Finbarr Nash, Brian Geary, Ger Collins and a man of the match from Peter Russell. The back line was especially strong and effective against most of the NCW attacks. All of the subs who came on also made a good account of themselves. A great nights celebration took place in the clubhouse afterwards and well done to all involved. Special thanks to all the Monaleen supporters young and old who turned our in great numbers at the Gaelic grounds.
Our Junior Footballers were beaten by Galbally in the county 1/4 finals. Congrats to our minor hurlers who qualified for the final with a great win against Feengh/Kilmeedy. Luke Murphy, Darragh Madden and Sean Power played well.

Camogie Autumn Leagues?
Monaleen had a good week-end in the camogie autumn leagues qualifying in two finals at U11 and U13. The U11’s progressed to the ‘A’ final with a hard fought victory over Ballybrown. A first half goal by Tara Hogan and 2 second half scores from Ruth Heavey were the difference between the sides. Ballybrown had their chances but Lisa Shelly in the Monaleen goal made some great saves. The final is next Sunday against Patrickswell. The U13s had a big win against Granagh Balingarry to qualify for the ‘B’ final against Na Piarsaigh next Saturday. Times and venues to be confirmed.
