Juvenile Notes
Our U14 footballers were understrength for their latest championship match
against Mungret on Wednesday but a number of younger players filled in
for what was another good victory by 3-6 to 1-4. We have one group match
remaining on Aug 3 before the knock-out phase begins on Aug 27. Our team
was Sean Fitzpatrick, Shane Donegan, Daniel Enright, Domhnall Dooley,
Conor Nelson, Niall OShea, Eoghan Carew, Conor Fleming, Daniel Power,
Alan Nicholas, Evan OConnor, Darren Coughlan, Jamie Power, Kevin
Gleeson, Harry Gleeson. Sub: Darragh OLeary.
U13 Football county semi final.
On Monday night last Monaleen travelled to Newcastlewast to play the U13
county semi final. The score after extra time finished Monaleen 1-3, Newcastlewest
0-6. The low score didn`t reflection the excitement of a very tight competitive
game. Michael Griffin provided the goal, points from Jamie power and Darren
Coughlan and a last minute pointed free by Darren Golden were enough to
secure a replay. No word yet on the replay date.
Monaleen u16 footballers remain unbeaten after round 5 in this years
competition with a hard earned but well deserved draw on a scoreline of
1-9 each, away to our nearest rivals, Newcastlewest. We fielded 4 of the
youngest members of our successful All Ireland Feile football winning
team of last year, due to some of the older boys being away on holidays, and
together with their older teammates, they acquitted themselves exceptionally
well, earning us that valuable draw, with just 2 rds. to go,before the knockout
stages of the competition. The following were the team members and scorers:Cian
O Dwyer(in goal
),Daniel Power,Jack O Neill,Jack Cleary,John Nicholas,Cian Malone,Stuart
Hoare,John Sheahan (capt.),Mark Mc.Carthy(0-3),Brian O Donovan(0-1),Ed.Doyle(0-1),Reiss
Joyce,Cian O Brien(0-1),Sean Power,Andrew La Touche Cosgrave(1-3),Cian
Hession,Oisin Kelly,Leo Morrison,Kevin Gleeson.
Our U9 boys played their last game before their summer break up in Croom
lrecently. We travelled with a strong panel of players and this began
to show early on in the game. Croom fought a tough battle to resist the
pressure from our team with D O Dalaigh,E O Driscoll and P Brennan piling
it on from the start. Our boys continued to dominate a good game of football
and P O Shea C Carew continued to drive the play forward. With the help
of our forwards M Lopez,D Mullowney, H Doyle, R power, R Lyons and C Mulkerin
we came off comfortable winners
Our U6 1/2 Hurlers played their 2nd Match and final match of the Season
recently when they travelled out to play Mungret. Again there was a great
turnout of Players and Supporters on the night. 2 Games of 9 aside were
played and both games were fiercely contested with an exhibition of hurling
skills on show in both games. The Training and dedication of the Players
over the past 9 months is now really showing in the games. Monaleen ended
up drawing 1 Match and winning the 2nd Game. Mungret were most welcoming
hosts on the night. Team Members on the night: Harvey Hogan, Callum Prendergast,
Leon McMahon, Conor McGrath, Darragh Clifford, Mark Nestor, Darragh Langan,
Aaron Hough, Michael Sheehan, Ethan O Donovan, Matthew Fitzgerald, Joe
Fitzgerald, Niall O Shea, Adam Keating, Will Mulcahy, Luke Hession, Seanie
OHea, Eoin Yelverton. Thanks to Brian Geary for coming along to
our final training session and presenting the Players with their Medals
last Friday night.
