Senior Notes
Monaleen Chairman Tom Crosse would like to pay tribute to all club members who help make the family fun day a huge success with in excess of 3,000 people attending the sun drenched event on Sunday last.

The field was filled with crowds all enjoying many fun events, with the Tug of War attracting widespread interest. Bernie Bonfil's scone parlour was packed all day long, 500 second hand books changed hands, the players also embraced the occasion cooking 600 burgers and 250 sausage rolls. The dog show was a huge attraction and other fun events included penalty shoot out, horse shoe throwing, golf chipping, sponge splashing, wheel of fortune, bouncing castle village etc.

The fun continued long into the night with the clampers doing the honours with great gusto. All told a fabulous occasion enjoyed by all those who attended

Juvenile Notes

Monaleen Camogie club was represented by Aisling Doyle on the Limerick County primary games team which played their annual tournament last saturday in Cahir. Limerick on the day won all 3 matches beating Dublin , Cork and finally Tipperary.

Congratulations to Monaleen National School for winning the Leader Cup for the first time ever during the week. This is an all county competition which followed on from the team win in the city competition at the same grade. Well done to the team and coach Colman O Leary.

Monaleen U14 Ladies GAA Club ( Limerick):
The Monaleen Ladies Football Club came into being in the middle of the Summer 2003. Monaleen Ladies went on to win the Junior Championship in 2003 and 2008. The Juvenile Section started in 2005 with an Under 14 team when we participated in Feile and won the Development League.
Always working closely with the club, Monaleen National School went from strength to strength in girls football, reaching six City Finals in a row from 2005 to 2010. Squad numbers in the school went from 18 talented youngsters in 2003 to 45 in 2005 (and increased every year since then!), and U12 Football was added to the strong U14 set up in the club in 2008 on the back of the large numbers of girls playing the sport. The U12s won the Novice County Championship in 2009 before winning the A County Championship in 2010, and many of those girls are involved in the Feile 2011 team.
The numbers in the club and school continue to grow, with good numbers now playing U10 girls football, and a very successful U11 ½ team set up in the school (they have won the last two city championships). The club now has active and dedicated teams from U10 all the way to intermediate, and the future for Monaleen Ladies Football looks bright!

The Feile is on in Cork from June 30th to July 2nd. Monaleen are in Division one this year so the competition will be tough as they face St Vals and Eire Og – both clubs are in the final of the Cork U14 Championship, and also PortLaoise. They will be based in Cloughduv in County Cork. It is a great honour for the girls to represent the club , community and county. They would like to thank all of those parents, sponsors, the club members and mentors who have helped to get them prepared for this event. We wish the team every success in this year Feile.

Camogie Schools Finals For the first time ever , Monaleen played in the A City schools camogie final on thurs 9th June against Mungret in the Gaelic grounds, having completed a 100% record in the group stages. They emulated the boys who won their final ,when captain Aisling Doyle lifted the cup after winning on a scoreline of Monaleen 3.02 to mungret 0.00.

Monaleen opted to play with the breeze in the first half and got the perfect start with an early goal from Robyn Mc Donnell which was followed by points from Aisling Doyle and another goal just before halftime from Claire Kelly.

Some sterling defending from Jane Clohessy ,Taine Amadeo, Grace Donovan ,Cliodhna Mc Carthy and Shalini Kujur and Niamh Holmes in goals kept Mungret scoreless and Monaleen wrapped up the title with a second goal from Claire Kelly.
