Club NotesMarch 28th, 2010U21 HurlingLast Sunday saw our under-21 hurlers show great determination and skill in
notching up their second win in succession and maintain their 100% record in the
county 12-a- side championship. Having started slowly in the first half,
Monaleen came to grips with their challenge from a spirited home side, Crecora.
Scores from Podge Pond, Peter Griffin and Luke Murphy kept Monaleen in touch at
the interval as they trailed by 1-5 to 0- 6. Outstanding performances from
Darragh Madden, Alex de Sousa, John Griffin and Mike Doyle in the second half
turned the score into a resounding win. The greater work rate from the visitors
yielded goals from Peter Griffin and Podge Pond and points from David Pond to
secure the points on a scoreline of 2-14 to 0-7. With three more games in the
series this side could be heading for a play-off place in a few weeks time and
the team effort will be a testament to this worthy achievement. The side was:
David Haugh, Daragh Madden, Alex de Sousa, John Griffin, Mike Doyle, David
Mulhall, John O’Dwyer, Luke Murphy, Darragh Bonfil, Podge Pond, Stephen Murphy,
Peter Griffin. Subs: David Pond, Fionn Kavanagh, Eamon O’Brien, Kieran Murphy,
Cian O’Dwyer and Simon Griffin. Senior FootballOur senior footballers had a fine win over Pallasgreen in the 2009 senior league semi-final, on the score line of 5-5 to 1-9 and play Fr.Caseys in the final. This week they have a busy schedule in playing St Patricks in the opening round of the All County league, division 1 in Rhebogue and on Thursday they face Mungret in the quarter final of the City Championship in Claughan. Our minor footballers start their championship campaign with an outing against Killtula Gaels at home on Friday next at 6.45. U6/7 HurlingU6/7 hurling training has now moved outdoors to the clubhouse pitch Fridays 6pm for the remainder of the season (except during school holidays). A gentle reminder to all players to bring their own wooden hurlies and to wear shin guards and helmets. We will organise inter club games over coming weeks and months so roll on the summer!
