we travelled to Knockaderry and played a great game against very strong
opposition. Scores by Kerri O Donoghue, Claire Kelly and Aine Doyle helped
Monaleen to a 3-1 to 1-5 victory. This was their third straight win and
secured a home semi-final against Ballyagran on Saturday. After a slow
start and going a goal down, the girls put in a brave performance to get
back into the game. Two goals from Claire Kelly brought the teams level
as the game entered the final stages. Despite Monaleens best efforts they
could not get the vital score and the game looked like it was going to
extra time. Ballyagran managed a late score to win out in the end by 3-0
to 2-0 in what was a very exciting game. Congratulations to all the girls
who played great camogie over the course of the championship Camogie - U16 Championship Monaleen began the 2011 campaign with a home match v Blackrock on Sunday morning. The girls began well and led throughout the first half finishing up with a 1 point lead at the break. With injuries to key players forcing changes the game slipped from Monaleen in the second half despite some great scores. The final score of Monaleen 4-4 to Blackrock 6-7 included a couple of late goals from blackrock and did not reflect the strong performance from the Monaleen girls. Scorers on the day were Caoimhe Lyons 3-1 Ciara Wiley 1-0 Niamh Doyle 0-3. Monaleen were very well represented last weekend at the Munster U 15
A and B competitions , with Cian O Brien , Jamie Porter , Edward Doyle
, Lorcan Lyons , Ronan Murphy and John Nicholas all playing very well
. Limerick B were narrowly defeated in their Shield final by Clare. Limerick U16s , with Pat O Kane giving great performances got all the way to the All Ireland semi final before being narrowly defeated by Waterford. U13 Footballers will contest the the county Final next Saturday in Cloughan at 3.30pm. Please come along and support. |
