Monaleen Juvenile GAA Club

Near neighbours Ahane were the visitors on Thursday for this U12 Camogie championship clash. The sunny dry conditions helped to produce a very competitive game with a high standard displayed by both teams.

Monaleen started strongly and after great pressure from forwards Ciara Wiley and Megan O Meara it was centre forward Aine Hegarty who struck first with a ground strike which beat the Ahane keeper. Ahane however struck back quickly with an equaliser. It was Caroline Crotty with a strong strike who restored the lead. Ahane played well in the minutes to half time and some great defending from Laura Enright, Leah Quinlan and Nora Farrell reduced them to 1 point during this period.

Half time and the score was 2-0 to 1-1 and finely balanced.

After a number of substitutions and positional switches Monaleen took control in the second half but the Ahane defence proved difficult to break down. Eventually good play from Eilbhe Harrington and Meabh Ni Ghuairim allowed Susan Crotty to strike for a third Monaleen goal. Despite this Ahane attacked on the break and it took a great save from Eileen Russell late in the game to leave the score Monaleen 3-0 Ahane 1-1. A great win.
